If the episode proves popular for this year’s world championships A group time trial may be a part of this Paris 2024 road cycling programme.
The case, trialled at the European championships in Alkmaar this year, which makes its world championships debut on Sunday in Yorkshire with teams comprising of three female riders and three male riders.
It would potentially allow an street occasion in Paris to go along with the street races and individual time trials and follows involves women’s road biking to get a greater profile.
“The UCI will want to find out how this arrangement evolves over the next Olympic phase and therefore are open to working with the IOC to present a new and innovative format in the existing Road Cycling programme at the Olympic Games,” that a UCI spokesman said on Wednesday.
“Looking ahead, this would match perfectly with our goal of absolute gender parity at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games with the aim that female and male cyclists will enjoy equivalent quantity of quotas, awards and events.”
The mixed team time trial will probably see three male cyclists tackle a hilly 14km circuit around Harrogate using the women’s trio setting away if the 2nd male rider crosses the line. Times will be an aggregate of their men’s and women’s cyclists.
