Liverpool’s professional throw-in coach Thomas Gronnemark says Jurgen Klopp’s revolutionary approach to management is really to build”something unique” at Anfield.
Klopp made headlines last season when he included his coaching team and Gronnemark midway.
The Dane, who holds the world record for the maximum throw-in at 51.33m, had a direct effect on the technique of this club’s full-backs – most notably Joe Gomez.
Liverpool went on to assert the sixth European Cup that year and Gronnemark isn’t surprised to find that the Reds flourishing under Klopp.
“Jurgen is an innovator,” Gronnemark told The Athletic. “He’s a leader who says he does not understand everything and is ready to listen to folks if they have knowledge to select the team forward.
“If you’ve got a leader that wants total control and believes he knows best about everything then will impact the workers.
“Even though you are among the best clubs in the world, it does not mean you have to do precisely the same thing because you did yesterday. When you fulfill with Jurgen you truly feel as if you’re talking with a fantastic buddy. He listens a lot.
“To let a guy into the club who was pretty much unknown in England and convey to him’we need all of your knowledge to put it into the coaching programme’, that reveals a lot of trust and excellent leadership.
“He is great at getting the best out of individuals. It’s far more egotistical at other clubs. There’s a pride among the players and the team. All of them feel a part of something special.
“Occasionally I will stop and look at the players in front of me and think,’Oh, this is insane’. I’m working in a gigantic club who won the Champions League.
“Originally I had a contract for the first half of the season then it was extended for the next half and now I have one for the complete season.
“I really don’t believe many men and women are laughing today. I believe most people in football seem at it and say’Ok, there must be something inside’.”
