Anthony Watson insists England will perform without fear of sustaining an accident on Friday, live on Sky Sports Action.
The Bath full-back, who returned from a serious Achilles injury in April following a 13 month lay-off, says their standards must not drop at St James’ Park at their Quilter International.
Eddie Jones’ side venture out on Sunday to Japan planning to land a World Cup because Jonny Wilkinson secured a historic victory in 2003.
“You can’t worry about it and I am not concerned about it,” said Watson about the potential for picking up an injury against Italy.
“As soon as you begin entering contact at 85 per cent and begin worrying about ensuring you get on the plane on Sundayyou will not play as well as you can and you would probably get injured anyway.”
England bounced back following defeat with a success over Ireland which means they’ve won two of their three summertime internationals.
Jones has confirmed he’ll hand a debut into winger Watson and Ruaridh McConnochie is convinced his Bath team-mate, that has been chosen from the 31-man squad can bring a new dimension to the side.
“Having played Ruaridh at club level I know a little about him and what to expect,” Watson added.
“He’s blown my mind in how he’s encounter this setup. He’s trying to learn and always hungry for understanding, so nothing has really fazed him.
“He’s taken it into his stride and torn it up really, which is testament to him as a bloke. He is deceptively strong in the way he carries the ball.
“He never gives up and doesn’t go down easily.”
Watch England vs Italy reside on Sky Sports Action and Main Event from 7pm on Friday
