Thiem Toughs It Out
If his oppoent Gael Monfils was forced to withdraw because of an Achilles tendon injury, thiem also got a free ride. He wasn’t so fortunate in his semifinal against Raonic.The two fought tooth and nail during the first two collections. A border went in the opening set to Thiem. The slight advantage was gained by Raonic in the second set, when he listed 10 of his 17 match aces.It was 2-2 in the third set when Thiem broke Raonic’s support to win a marathon fifth match. Thiem never dropped support the entire match. It had been his first career victory in three tries against Raonic.
