Shohei Ohtani To Undergo Season-Ending Left Knee Surgery

Angels General Manager Billy Eppler

“Shohei Ohtani will undergo surgery tomorrow in Los Angeles to address some bipartite patella in his left knee. A general schedule for this procedure is 8-12 weeks for full recovery. We’ll update with additional details following the procedure.”
Ohtani should have tons of time to become healthy and ready for Spring training but his continuing recovery could be impacted by the newest injury from Tommy John surgery. While he has been progressing nicely ohtani underwent the elbow procedure, a knee difficulty isn’t a complication that a two-way player like him wants.
The Tommy John recovery stopped Ohtani this season, from pitching and kept him out of earning his season debut. Ohtani finished the year with a .286 batting average, 18 home runs and 62 RBIs in 425 plate appearances within 106 games.
The superstar experienced a bit of a sophomore slump, using pitchers getting used to him while rehabbing his pitching arm, and because he had to take care of the extra challenge of coming back for a position player from Tommy John surgery.
Shohei Ohtani has a .286 batting average with 40 home runs and 123 RBIs over 210 career games and then he went 4-2 with a 3.31 ERA and a 1.16 WHIP in 10 starts last season. The Angels have to be cautious when monitoring his health during the offseason and Spring Training because he is expected to bring as a pitcher and designated hitter.
