Vegas Over/Under: 33.5
Fromal’s Record Projection: 31-51 The Bet: Beneath with confidence During the 2016-17 campaign, the Orlando Magic created 32.8 percent of the three-point attempts, which left them ahead of just the Oklahoma City Thunder (32.7 percent). They also took just 26.1 treys per contest, once again finishing in the league’s lowest half (No. 16).
These amounts are not conducive to success in the NBA, which places more and more of a focus on shooting from beyond the rainbow every year.
So the Magic dealt with their most glaring flaw by adding the following gamers, many of whom fought in 2016-17 from downtown:
Marreese Speights: 37.2 percentage on 3.4 attempts per game for the Los Angeles Clippers
Jonathan Isaac: 34.8 percent on 2.8 attempts per game for the Florida State Seminoles (with a shorter arc)
Shelvin Mack: 30.8 percentage on 2.2 attempts per game for your Utah Jazz
Jonathon Simmons: 29.4 percent on 1.3 attempts per game for the San Antonio Spurs
Adreian Payne: 20.0 percent on 0.8 attempts per game for the Minnesota Timberwolves
Speights’ presence may help, however, the team frontcourt logjam could make it tough for him to earn minutes.
So are we supposed to believe the Magic hit on the over and will win more games this season?
