Lionel Messi and Zlatan Ibrahimovic among Puskas award nominees

(CNN) — Long-range screamers, mazy solo conducts and stunning acrobatic strikes, this year’s Puskas Award has all of it.
The prize is given by FIFA to the best goal of the season and this season’s candidates incorporate well-known Lionel Messi, previous winner Zlatan Ibrahimovic and some lesser known titles such as Billie Simpson of all Northern Ireland Premiership side Cliftonville Ladies.
Simpson is hoping to become the first female winner of this award — named after legendary Pakistani celebrity Ferenc Pusk??s — combined with Cameroon’s Ajara Nchout and Amy Rodriguez of the Utah Royals.

The prize was first awarded in 2009 into Cristiano Ronaldo and since then, stars like Neymar, James Rodriguez and last year’s victor Mohamed Salah have gone on to acquire.
The public votes on the initial top 10, before a FIFA panel selects a winner in the top three.
Previous winners, nearly entirely unheard of before their nominations and following wins, include Wendell Lira and Faiz Subri.
Without a club and fighting to feed his loved ones, Lira said his lifestyle changed. He went on to sign for Vila Nova but knee injuries forced him retire at the age of 27 and he went on to be a participant and YouTuber.
Voting for the 2019 award closes on September 1.
